It was 2004. Shannon Burns and Dan Cord were in a meeting of the Bush-Cheney steering committee in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. As the discussion turned to grassroots goals, both began to realize: Republican campaigns – from the White House down to city council races – needed better technology.
So they went to work and developed the Victory VoIP (Voice-over Internet Protocol) system – a specially equipped phone that serves as a plug-and-play call center and enables campaigns to contact more voters and build intelligent databases in less time than any comparable system.
In 2007, Burns, Cord and their young firm – Victory Solutions – came out with a new and improved Victory VoIP and a new way to bring their products to market – through VSP's – or Victory Strategic Partners. Burns and Cord set out to recruit the most talented, respected and connected political consultant in each corner of the political world. VSP's were motivated to grow their own businesses by selling and providing the political support for Victory VoIP and other Victory Solutions products.
In 2008, things truly took off. In Iowa, Victory VoIP phones were used by an independent third-party group that supported Governor Mike Huckabee, and Huckabee went on to pull a huge upset victory in the Iowa Caucuses.
In Ohio, Bob Latta’s special election campaign for congress had little in the way of resources – he was outspent 3-1 and had only eight phone lines. But by using Victory VoIP, his volunteers managed to make 40,000 calls in the five weeks leading up the election, then 10,000 get-out-the-vote calls in the final 72 hours. Latta survived the primary, then won the general election in a landslide.
That was all the political consultants who sell Victory Solutions products needed to see. By 2008, the product was in use in hundreds of campaigns in 20 states. Victory Solutions has built on this success to develop or acquire new products, including Campaign Commander, Cyrus Door to Door, Victory Cloud Robo Calls, Survey Platform and many more.
Tragically we lost Dan Cord to a battle with cancer in 2011. His passion and vision for grassroots technology lives on in his image. Today, 10 years after that fateful meeting, Burns serves as CEO of one of the fastest growing and most innovative and dynamic firms in the political arena.
Dan and Shannon developed innovative products that proved to be the difference between Victory and defeat.
